IT'S COOL TO GO SOUTH...

Preconceived notions tell us that the farther south we travel, the hotter the weather will become.  But did you know that Tucson is actually cooler than Phoenix?  And that just south of Tucson, in eastern Santa Cruz County, the area known as the "Mountain Empire - the coolest place of all."

It's more than elevation that makes the Mountain Empire communities of Patagonia, Sonoita and Elgin cool...it's the way of life.

It's cool to go south...where the elevation ranges from 4000-5000 feet, the weather reflects the higher elevation with four distinct seasons and the summer evenings are heavenly...where the fury and majesty of a summer monsoon thunderling across the high desert grassland is a palpable experience...where you can picnic in the shade thrown from a magnificent sycamore while hoping to spot the elusive Elegant Trogon,a shimmering jewel of a bird who visits from Mexico...where two lakes, Parker Canyon and Patagonia, beckon the swimmer to plunge to cooler depths, the firsherman to hook the big one, and the boater to drift the afternoon away...where the heart of Arizona's rapidly growing wine country is flourishing in the region's temperate climate; where vineyard tours and wine tastings invite all to linger.
